KATO Toshio, President of JHF, co-hosted the roundtable meeting“U.S.-Japan Housing Finance & Capital Market Roundtable “ with Ginnie Mae on August 27th 2015 in Washington D.C.

JHF and Ginnie Mae, the Government National Mortgage Association, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in January 2014.This meeting was the inaugural roundtable in accordance with the MOU and great opportunity to strengthen the partnership regarding housing finance markets in both of the U.S. and Japan. At the beginning of the meeting, the Honorable Erika Moritsugu ,Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations, U.S, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Honorable Theodore Tozer, President of Ginnie Mae and KATO Toshio delivered welcome remarks.

There were two major topics covered in the meeting: the Housing Markets in Japan and the U.S.; and Capital Market and Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) Demand and Supply. The meeting brought in around 100 housing finance experts in government, financial, and banking sector firms and association, and academia to share current policy effectiveness and challenges in the private capital markets.
